The Chief Executive of Oprah‘s OWN Network has been dismissed — reportedly due to Oprah’s dissatisfaction with the ratings of the Channel. According to The New York Times, the channel announced on Friday (May 6th) that Christina Norman was fired.

Effective immediately, Peter Liguori — chief operating officer for Discovery Communications will take over the channel on an interim basis through the rest of the year — if not longer.

A person with direct knowldge of the situation said that the decision to dismiss Norman was reportedly made by the board that oversees OWN in the last few weeks.

The shake up comes four months after the network launched and amid disappointment at the low ratings for most of its programming.

Oprah Winfrey has opened up about a recent episode of her OWN series Oprah Behind The Scenes, where Jennifer Hudson booked a gig in Dallas the night before an early morning interview with Oprah — which caused her to be several hours late to the show. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, O hinted that tactful editing went into what could have been a bleep-filled episode.

She said, “That was a lot of high drama because we’ve never been stood up before. Everybody was mad. I wanted to make sure that there was not one single thing in that episode that had anything to do with us being mad or upset in that moment. It was dramatic. Nobody has ever not shown up, ever. Especially if they were here the night before.”

  • Oprah also laughed at her willingness to be herself on camera on the show. She said, “I’ve taken that to an all-time low, Oh my god. Jesus, I need a little vanity….The camping trip was an all-time low for makeup and pajamas. I do think I could have had nicer pajamas. The reason why it doesn’t completely make me feel like, God I should improve myself, is that people have seen me. They know I can pull it together.”
  • She added, “And in real life, people don’t have coordinated outfits. I don’t have coordinated outfits!”
