IAA SPOTLIGHT: Get To Know J.R. HAYNES-Brooklyn’s Uprising Star!

J.R. Haynes is a 25 year old Brooklyn, New York born native with a distinctive and raw neo soul sound that has been tearing up the underground music scene since the tender age of 16. Not only does he deliver that “real” R&B feeling with each performance but Mr. Haynes has made quite a name for himself at such a young age! He has performed at Showtime at the Apollo three times, served as the opening act for a Vibe Magazine promotional event in New York City, been interviewed by Rod Murray of the Hip Hop Connection and performed at the DMV Music Awards’ Pre-show earlier this year. In addition, he has performed at a number of well known clubs, lounges and fashion events in our nation’s Capitol.

IAA:  What is your music background?

J.R. HAYNES: My musical Background consist of me growing up listening to the oldies. My music background runs deep especially with a family tree of blessed & gifted individuals. I am related to the late great David Ruffin Of the Temptation’s, alongside with my Cousin Hattie McDaniel who was the first African American to receive an Academy Award, For “Gone With The Wind”.  I come from a gifted musical family.

IAA:  What inspired you to pursue music?

J.R. HAYNES: Wow! Well, what inspired me to pursue music was the simple fact that I have a love for music. I am honored to be blessed with a voice and talent.  Looking back into true r&b is what really got me started. At the age of 16 I’ve always seen myself being included with the movement of music itself.

IAA:   What are your songs about?

J.R. HAYNES: My songs are about life itself, everyday situations ranging from love, romance, and lust. I sing on topics that believe people of the masses can relate too. For example, my song Do It is a romantic song that talks about love making.  I have another song titled Gone Baby Gone that talks about losing a friend and/or loved one, and that song falls under everyday life.

IAA:  Do you write your own music?

J.R. HAYNES: Yes, I do write my own lyrics. It feels good to be creative and have creative control. I don’t want to limit myself, but J.R Haynes does have an open mind.

IAA:   Who are your musical influences?

J.R. HAYNES: My musical influences varies from Stevie Wonder, Ottis Redding, The Manhattans, The Temptation’s, Donnie Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Dave Hollister, to Music SoulChild, Creed, Phil Collins just to name a few. I’m influence by them and look up to these phenomenal artists.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people ?

J.R. HAYNES: My music can be best classified as true R&B with an urban and slight pop feel.

 IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artist ?

J.R. HAYNES: What makes me J.R Haynes stand out from other artist is that I’m always myself. I’m here to represent for men, and to show the world that I have a lot to offer more than just my voice. I’m here to touch everyone and expand all that I have to offer. I’m here to help bring back real R&B.  J.R Haynes is here to put men back on the map.  Don’t get it misconstrued I have a lot to offer for my ladies, while everyone is going right, I’ll be going Left.

IAA:   What are some upcoming projects, you are currently working on?

J.R. HAYNES: Well, for upcoming projects I’m still recording on a daily basis, and continuing to build my Brand. I’m definitely collaborating with many other artists as we speak. I will be featured on The Exponent3rd Magazine which is going viral. I will also be the spokesmen for a new line of fragrance for a men’s cologne. I’m currently on 40 different Radio stations with Sirius XM Satellite Hip Hop Nation. I have a huge show coming up October 20th in NY @ Nexus Lounge in Manhattan.

IAA:   What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

J.R. HAYNES: My career goals are to gain respect with my music on an international basis and be well known as a songwriter/artist. I definitely intend on giving back to the community and my world. I Have all my goals mapped out. Ten years from now I see myself still being humble and successful J, I have a lot to achieve.
