IAA SPOTLIGHT-Get To Know MICHAEL BLACK-Delaware’s Uprising Star!
Aug 2011 31

Starting at a very young age Michael “Key-Note” Black had a very strong love and passion for music. His name sake came from his style of using piano and string based instrumentals in his songs Singing in school and Church choirs helped develop his talent and drive. Along with the support of his mother and driven by the sacrifices she has made for her children, his success is a tribute to her and her dedication.  At age thirteen he wrote his first song and quickly fell in love with the lyrical arts of music. At age sixteen he composed his very first instrumental. After listening and studying today’s music, Michael is driven by the urge to bring good music and new music together again.

IAA:  What is your music background?

Michael Black: My interest in music started at a very young age. I started singing in school and church choirs at the age of nine. I began writing my own music at the age of thirteen. A variety of genres of music such as gospel, classical, country and hip-hop have all influenced my R&B style of singing and writing.

IAA: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

MICHAEL BLACK:  Recording and releasing my own music has been a dream of mine  my entire life. Expressing myself through my music comes natural for me. I want to make a connection with my fans that surpasses any amount of money.

IAA:  What are your songs about?

MICHAEL BLACK:  My songs talk about the different aspects of relationships such as, true love, heartbreak, romance, lust. My songs are also about friends, partying, and living it up at a night club with  your friends and partying.

IAA:  Who is your fan base directed towards?

MICHAEL BLACK:  My fan base is directed mostly towards people who have a lot of experience with relationships and knows the ins and outs of it. I try to write from different perspectives so that I have a little bit of everything for everyone.

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?

MICHAEL BLACK:  I have been influenced by many artists  Such as: Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Teddy Pendergrass, Boys 2 Men, Usher, Brian  McKnight, Luther Vandross, Ginuwine,  R- Kelly, Ne-Yo, just to name a few.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people?

MICHAEL BLACK:  I would describe my music as being poetic, extremely expressive, and carry strong stories behind them.

IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artists?

MICHAEL BLACK:  What makes me stand out from other artists is that I respect music for what it truly is, art. I hear a lot of music today and yes it’s entertaining, but it lacks true art form. Also I know that I am in the music “business” and I respect it as a business. It’s more then just writing, going to the studio, and performing. There are logistics, and rules to be followed.  A lot of up and coming artists do not see or understand these facts about the music industry. Music=art and Industry=business. Each artist must have a respect for and be able to balance both elements

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects, you are currently working on?

MICHAEL BLACK:  I am currently in the finale stages of recording my debut mix tape “Unleashed.” I’m working on writing my next mix tape “The Come Up.” I’m also working on various projects with other up and coming artists, such as music videos and ghost writing.

IAA:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

MICHAEL BLACK:  My career goals are to become a successful singer/songwriter and performer. In ten years I see myself already having at least 5 to 7 platinum albums out, touring all around the world, and writing songs for other successful artists.

IAA:  How can your fans access your music and contact you?
