IAA SPOTLIGHT: Get To Know – SOL ANDERSON-Philly’s Hottest Star!
Jan 2012 24

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Sol Anderson, began singing at the age of 3.  Realizing that music was his passion at a young age, Sol grew up listening to a variety of music including, r&b, pop, gospel, country, and jazz. This gifted singer, songwriter, and arranger has opened up for the likes of John Legend and Neyo, to name a few.  He has overcome many obstacles in his life to become one of the most talented and influential artists today. In his words” I believe that we have a responsibility as Artist to create the right images and to do the right things to reach as many people as possible with what gifts we are given. As Artist we must remember what we can do in the lives of others to be a positive influential voices in today’s diverse world“.

IAA:  What is your music background?

SOL ANDERSON:  My music background is pretty diverse. My roots are in gospel, pop, rock, folk, and jazz

IAA:  Why do you want to record and release your own music?

SOL ANDERSON:  I want to record and release my own music because I have an entrepreneurial spirit, and nowadays the climate is perfect for entrepreneurs.  It’s almost like the deregulation of the Energy and Telecom companies for the music industry. There is much competition, but if you have a plan you can get noticed. You can also build a significant fan base that will support your career throughout the years.

IAA:  What are your songs about?

SOL ANDERSON:  My songs are about living, life, and love. There is always something positive that comes from my music. Whether I am working with another artist or producer, I want to make feel good music for the masses.

IAA:  Who is your fan base directed towards?

SOL ANDERSON:  My fan base is predominately Women between the ages of 13 to 34. I have also managed to pick up some of the male demographic as well with my songs like Bus Stop and Too Late.

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?

SOL ANDERSON:  My musical influences are Donny Hathaway, Sam Cook, Jeffery Osborne, James Ingram, Micheal McDonald, Barry Manilow and many more.  Surprisingly I listen to a lot of female singers, I believe that there is no lying in their delivery.  With artist like Mary J. Blige, Mariah’s early 90’s stuff, Lauren Hill, and India Arie, you feel the pain in their music.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people ?

SOL ANDERSON:  I really try to cover a range of emotions in the human condition, I don’t like to write sad love songs, I try to stay true to what I like to hear on the radio. You have to be a fan of music in order to write songs that will connect with your audience. My arrangements are not typical of R&B because I listen to a wide range of musical influences. Some of these inflections can be felt and heard in my music.  I try to use a broad stroke on my tapestry with many colors yet always stay consistent.

IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artist ?

SOL ANDERSON:  I feel like unlike most artist I have lived several lives, and I have lived in different countries.  I have exposed myself to businesses outside of the music industry such as business and finance, management, marketing, and politics. I can hold a conversation with anyone on any subject matter.  I was raised in the rough streets of Philly and grew up with pushers as friends because they were my brother’s friends. So from the boardroom to the streets I have been able to move in and out of life relating to everyone from a Top Executive at a Fortune 500 company to the drug dealer. The truth is that I have knowledge of this game and have run into every crook, back alley dealing manager, and wannabe that I care to remember.  Through all of that, I still manage not loose my love or become jaded in this game. It is this experience that makes me valuable in the eyes of anyone that is in a position to take on a new artist from a monetary perspective.

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects, you are currently working on

SOL ANDERSON:  I am currently working on projects with my Team Warrior Creations out of LA.  My friend Chris Warrior is a fantastic visionary when it comes to cutting edge music. The song “YOU” which is my latest single was produced and co-written by him, myself, and PM. I am working on creating the  BRAND “SOL ANDERSON.” I also have some projects upcoming with some pretty talented rappers from Philly by the name of Twizzmatic and Ben. These Cats are indeed some of the best in Philly, best hands down.

IAA:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

SOL ANDERSON:  My career goal is to win a Grammy. Winning a Grammy is the best is the pinnacle because it means, you are recognized as the best. In the next 10 years, I also want to own and operate my own finance firm on Wall Street.

IAA:  How can your fans access your music and contact you?

SOL ANDERSON:  My fans can access my music by going on to Reverbnation.com/solanderson, Twitter.com/solanderson215, Facebook.com/sol-anderson-page, solandersonmusic.com…on this site you can send your emails and I will get back with you. I also have a presskit- http://www.powerpresskits.com/PPKs/indexC.aspx?PPK=10509
