IAA SPOTLIGHT: GET TO KNOW-ZACK THE RIPPER-TEXAS’ UPRISING STAR!
Oct 2011 18

IAA: What is you musical background?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  I have a very diverse musical background. I’m half Asian and Black so I got two sides of musical taste growing up. My mother is Asian and loves country and old classics. Whenever I would go stay with my dad, things would change immensely. My dad’s favorite rapper was 2pac, and he would later on become my favorite rapper as well. One of my brother’s friends live with us and who played the guitar. He loved playing rock music Soon I began to love it as well. When it comes to music, I have no preferred genre. I love all good music.

IAA:  Why do you want to record and release your own music?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  Its very simple, I have a lot I need to say. I believe I have great advice and a unique perspective on things that many people would agree with. You know the feeling when your sad because of a break up and then ‘So Sick’ by Ne-Yo comes on? It hits you in a very sincere spot. He makes you feel his pain, and you get an understanding of what’s going on in his life at that moment. That’s exactly what I want to do. Of course I have party music, but I also have plenty of other music that gives you a good understanding of what I’m about and how Zack The Ripper was made.

IAA: What are your songs about?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  My songs are generally 80% about my life. I talk about where I came from, what I’m going through, and where I’m trying to go. Everyone loves a good story though and I love telling one. I would love to do a whole album from 18 different people’s perspectives. Rapping each song as a different person with a different problem or joy in their life. People love connecting with music, that’s what fuels them. If someone is down on their luck and hears a song about getting up and doing something, 9 out of 10 times they are going to take advantage of that moment. I try to stay away from the average “I’ve got chains, girls, money, cars, and clothes” genre and do something a little bit more deep.

IAA: Who is your fan base directed towards?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  My music is really directed towards anybody ready to listen to it and feel it. I don’t care if you’re a 50 years old stockbroker from New York or a 13 year old from Compton. Everybody loves music, and I’m a fan of everybody. I’m not prejudice and everybody has their own mindset making them their own person. I love hearing a person’s reaction to my music. It helps me to create better music. If someone tells me they hated my most recent song, I’m going to listen and remember their feedback when I’m in the studio. I’m not going to be like “Oh well, he doesn’t know anything about me or where I’m from.” I’m going to listen too and evaluate every person’s criticism.

IAA:  Who are your musical influences?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  Man, this is like the hardest question for me really.  It would have to be Tupac Shakur, Lil’ Wayne, Drake, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Soulja Boy, Justin Bieber, Tyler The Creator, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Marques Houston, Nas, Big Sean, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Fray, Katy Perry, Lou Rawls, Travis Mccoy, and anybody else who makes great music and puts their heart and soul into it.

IAA:  How would you describe your music to people ?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  My music is basically hip- hop and rap with a smooth feel to it. Like every other rapper, I have my club songs, cruising songs, and crunk songs. I want people to enjoy my lyrics, not just my beats. My lyrics are uplifting and motivational. I like making people smile and hopefully my music can do that for at least one person.

IAA:  What makes you stand out from other artist ?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  My lyrics and style make me unique. There are many artists who don’t have the hunger. They find a great beat, and throw in some mediocre lines to fill in the blanks. My rhymes will always have passion in them and you will be able to feel it.  My style is a mix of every thing I see that I think is cool. I could be wearing skinny jeans with a Pokemon t-shirt on Monday and a nice cardigan with some ripped up bleach jeans Tuesday. My style is always going to stand out look nice on me.

IAA:  What are some upcoming projects, you are currently working on?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  I’ve really just been writing down rhymes that come to me since I’ve been 9 or 10. Give me some beats and I’ll be able to put something down to each and every single one of them. I would like to put out a mix tape soon. I also like to dance and skateboard as well. I’ve done some parodies too, and I love making people laugh so expect to hear my comedic side as well.

IAA:  What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  My main and most important goal is to move my mom into the house of her dreams.  I want to make sure she never has to work another day in her life.  As for me, I’m just trying to make everybody proud who has had faith in me over these tough years. I would like to win Grammys, a reality show, and be known throughout the world. In 10 years, I see myself at the top of my game. I see everybody in the musical industry asking me to be on their song. I see upcoming rappers asking me to write their songs. In the future, whenever someone mentions the musical greats, my name Zack Colvin a.k.a. Zack The Ripper will come to mind.

IAA:  How can your fans access your music and contact you?
ZACK THE RIPPER:  I’m on various websites right now with my music and videos. But as of right now you can find me as Zack The Ripper on Soundclick.com, A&Rlive, Youtube. I’ll be reactivating my Facebook sometime in November , and you can find me as Zack Colvin. Also you can e-mail me at zcolvin81@yahoo.com. I love hearing from my fans and people with opinions!
