NBC APOLOGIZES FOR M.I.A

Madonna scored with her Super Bowl halftime performance, but the show was not without controversy. Although Madonna suffered no wardrobe malfunctions and won mostly positive reviews , one of her sidekicks — M.I.A. — was not so well-behaved.

While accompanying Madonna on “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” M.I.A. gave the camera the middle finger instead of the gunshot motion that she does to accompany the bleeped-out “I don’t give a (bleep)” line in the new video. As of last night, NBC had not announced any disciplinary action.

Back to the star of the show — Madonna opened her Gladiator-style performance with the classic hit “Vogue,” accompanied by Cleopatra-styled extras. She launched into “Music,” then was joined by LMFAO for a rendition of the 2011 hits “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy and I Know It.”

Although Madonna’s dancing left something to be desired, a tightrope dancer added some much-needed movement flair.

Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. then took the stage, but their vocals were easily overshadowed by M.I.A.’s inappropriate gesture.

An NFL spokesperson said, “The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing and we apologize to our fans.” NBC added, “We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime. It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late.”
